Water Pollution And It's Effects

Water pollution is the result of contamination by human waste towards water. About 500,000 detahs are caused by water pollution in the span of only two months each year. It also causes the destruction of ecosystems, especially oceanic. This has caused an estimated 400 dead zones around the world where little or no marine life can exist. Thus water pollution negatively impacts living creatures all around the world.

Water pollution has caused countless amounts of death towards marine creatures. Thee are numerous factors, one of the main factors is plastic along with trash and waste that ends up in the sea and gets accidentally consumed by marine animals who mistake it for food. This also includes waste water and sewage from cruise ships which are dumped into the ocean and putting aquatic life at risk. Another factor is the presence of mercury in water that leads to hormonal imbalance, glandular damage, and affects the reproductive functions along with the development of animals.

Water pollution also causes the destruction of the oceanic ecosystem. A well known cause is acid rain which discharges a toxic amount of aluminium into the water, changing pH levels that will throw the ecosystem out of balance. Other  causes include chemical run off from farms, which includes pesticide and fertilizers. These chemicals leaches into nearby streams and water ways resulting in growths or algae that depletes oxygen in water.

Water pollution also harms the human health. Polluted water used for irrigation by farmers contaminates the agricultural produce, this leads to health issues for humans who eat the product. Infectious diseases can also be spread through contaminated water, such as typoid, cholera, paratyphoid fever, etc. One of these is the “Blue Baby” syndrome caused by nitrates in water that is used to make formula in milk  which restrics the amount of oxygen in the baby’s brain.

Water pollution has a devastating amount of bad influence towards all living creatures and their environments. Because of that, it is very important to lessen it.
