Your 2022 Wrapped!

 Your 2022 Wrapped!

By Cathleen Avrilian

Well, it’s that time of year again! When your school lobby suddenly had a big pine tree decorated with green and red sparkles, when your parents rushed to the nearest store to maximize the holiday discounts, and when you finally received your Spotify wrapped!

The legendary spotify wrapped has developed in so many ways over the years. It showed you your top songs, top artists, your minutes listening, and even, specifically this year, they showed you your listening personality and your overall moods throughout the day.

There’s totally no doubt on how fitting and perfect your top songs chart is, but let’s take a look at how we would rate our very eventful 2022 in 5 songs!

      About Damn Time by Lizzo

If you manage to recall the mood in the beginning of 2022, you’ll recall a series of statements from our beloved Minister of Education, Pak Nadiem Makarim, that all schools are mandated to be reopened and have their pupils receive official lessons in-class. Surely, that puts a great shock towards a lot of people, starting from the parents, the students, and the teacher. Parents started speeding home from their vacations, students silently brooding over their future plans, and teachers flooding their hearts with joy. How ever that situation made you feel, we do have to admit that our deepest potentials had been stored and collecting dust for way too long.

And for that, Lizzo is indeed perfectly voicing out the phrase! It’s about damn time we stand up and put on our shoes, while a storey of experience awaits for us out there. Perfect for a revolutionary mood.

      honey by boy pablo

For starters, congratulations for those who were very lucky this year to find a highschool sweetheart for you to tell about in your later life! It must have been a wondrous journey to get the current love of your life.

And for that, here’s a song to describe our either popular or compassionate lovebirds! Honey by boy pablo suits the way you fell for them after you forgot to tie your shoes, and the way you love their lips, their blush, their eyes, and their touch.

High School in Jakarta by NIKI

Oh, the queen speaks for herself.

Sometime around August, NIKI dropped this beauty on the doorstep of our ears. This song is so fitting in our current state. Somewhere around mid July, our waves had finally calmed down and had managed to find its way back to a classic high school experience, thanks to the previous semester as the time they gave us to adjust to the new normal.

High school in Jakarta deeply represent us, private school students, in a lot of different ways and points of view. It shows how high school can be a mix of things we could never expect. In the ways that we might have been suffering, but now at least we have our friends one call away either to keep us sane or to go crazy together.

      Hati-Hati di Jalan by Tulus

Complementary to those who are lucky, we have a growing population of people who have tried and yet had failed in the game of love. This song’s for our fellows who are experiencing the state NT (Nice Try). This is a perfect resemblance of how you should end things with your (supposed to be) significant other.

When things are supposed to fit but they didn’t work out, make sure to tell them Hati-Hati di Jalan before watching them pursue another path. Hopefully a better one comes upon you next year.

      Secukupnya by Hindia

Lastly, this is a song we present to remind you of the hard times you went through in 2022. 2022 was a total roller coaster ride, but this song should be a good reminder that we shall not dwell on the past, and keep moving forward. This song reminds us that what has happened will always be an absolute point and for us not to try to change it, but rather evaluate it.

But aside from all that, this song is a perfect reminder that having an adequate amount of human emotions is healthy and to not get too attached to past problems. Like I said, perfect.

And there you have it! A very meaningful, hand-picked, fitting, and agreeable top songs for 2022! If in any way this year has been a huge mess, just remember that it’s all a part of the journey! It’s always something to be cherished and to be thankful for.

In other words, Happy New Year 2022!
