NATIONAL FATHER’S DAY
For Indonesian people, National Father’s Day may be unfamiliar than Mother’s Day, that is always celebrated every 22nd December.
However, now 12th November has been designated as National Father’s Day. So how about the history of Father’s Day?
National Father’s Day is celebrated every November 12, 2019. Commemoration of National Father’s Day which falls today Tuesday (11/12/2019) Google also celebrates it with its doodle.
Father’s Day is celebrated by giving gifts to fathers and gathering with other family members. This expression of thanks to the father is conveyed for his role as backbone and protector in the household.
In Indonesia, Father’s Day is celebrated on November 12 starting with the One Heart community initiative, cross-religious and cultural called the Association of the Mother and Mother Earth (PPIP), quoted from the website Kemdikbud.go.id.
Initially, in 2014, PPIP held a Mother’s Day commemoration in Solo by holding a Writing Letter for Mothers Competition. The event was enthusiastically welcomed by the participants so they asked when the National Day for Father was held.
Until November 12, the Association of the sons and daughters of the Motherland held a declaration of Father’s Day for Indonesia and set the date as National Father’s Day Commemoration.
The declaration was combined with health day by taking the motto ‘May you be wise, healthy father, Papah Jaya ‘.
The Father’s Day Declaration was also carried out in Maumere, Flores, NTT. The declaration also launched the book ‘Memories for Fathers’ which contained 100 Nusantara children’s letters selected from the Writing Competition for Fathers.
After the declaration, they sent the book and the Father’s Day declaration charter to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) as well as regents in 4 corners of Indonesia namely Sabang, Merauke, Sangir Talaud and Rote Island.
After this declaration, every November 12 is designated as National Father’s Day.
Apart from Indonesia, other countries also celebrate Father’s Day only in a different time. More than 75 countries celebrated this commemoration, namely the US, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Turkey, Pakistan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, the Philippines and Hong Kong. Fathers Day celebrations in these countries fall on Sunday in the third week of June and are celebrated almost all over the world since the beginning of the 12th century.
In several European and Middle Eastern countries, International Men’s Day is celebrated on November 19th.
