Heads Up, Everybody Wants to Be a Superstar

Written by Novadella Zen

Whether it’s over a social media platform or giant billboards; People are constantly craving to ‘make it big’ in this world. Oftentimes, when they do - these big people would live up to their so-called titles: ‘Influencers’. With money and fame, gathering a mass of fans that sell out their newly launched clothing line to hoarding their recommended snack in grocery stores are merely a part of their daily routines.

But there’s more to the story than just that - something happens to those who want to make it big too.

These influencers aren’t only affecting what people do. Coincidentally, more people are starting to think they could achieve fame as well. Nowadays, social media is becoming one of the easiest methods to put one’s name out in the world. All it takes is one big spike or a viral sensation to ultimately set them on the road to fame. It could be about the most outrageous and whimsical accidents from dancing dogs in tutus to interviewing random people on the street, and the internet would love that!

As great as that sounds, not all that glitters is gold. Despite many people looking up to these internet sensations, an equivalently unpleasant truth lingers underneath. Rivalry, attention-seeking, and the spreading of false information are the epitome of all that could go wrong in this situation. People are risking their lives for the thrill of being known. These people do just about anything to stir up public interest. They would sever healthy relationships with their family and friends, give up a perfectly good education, and pile up debts to purchase meaningless items.

Now here comes the good news … you don’t have to be a part of this.

As an aspiring creator, you might find seeking high amounts of engagement on your content irresistible. Surely good numbers would mean you’re doing well, wouldn’t it? In reality, no one stands in the spotlight for that long. You’re bound to face times when you didn’t shine as bright as before - using that as a reference for your growth doesn’t lead you anywhere. Instead, focus more on the values that you’re trying to achieve and build a genuine community by actively engaging with them.

It’s tiresome to maintain a fanbase that’s built on enjoying content that only follows certain trends or demographics. Being unique does not have to equal being different. You must set yourself apart from the people who chase meaningless ideals. Everyone in this world has a special identity. Learning to build and integrate that identity in your content not only helps you stand out amidst the repetitiveness but also helps you stay true to yourself. Take my word for it - when the right audience learns to appreciate the amount of effort in the content you put out, both parties continuously contribute to a supportive environment.

Success isn’t about making money, it’s about making a difference. It is essential for someone who holds such a major impact on a large number of people to act responsibly. What you might deem as a minor issue has the potential to snowball into unforeseen consequences for innocent and uneducated people. It is your choice to create a positive and inspiring environment for your community as the voice that will be heard and as the example that will be followed. As an easily influenced member of today’s society you might meet new people or take on new changes, but never forget to embrace the identity you were born with.

Cheers to your endeavors in making a difference; in becoming your very own superstar!
